The love Bluegrass and helping children, paid off big for Tucker County Special Olympics at The Bluegrass Community Fair last Saturday. John and Joyce Bowers wanted to raise a lot of money for Special Olympics of Tucker County and that they did.

Janet Streets, of Parsons, single handly raised $1,100 during the Rock – a -Thon. A total of $1,500 was raised and donated to special olympics.

The Bluegrass Community Fair began as a way to further entertain campers that arrived early for Pickin’ in Parsons Bluegrass Festival. But it quickly turned into a fundraising event for the community.

“Special Olympic games draw attention to children’s abilities rather than their disabilities. These events instill self confidence and pride, which all children need.” Said promoter Joyce Bowers

The fair got underway with a Tractor and Car Show followed by the Quilt show, Cake Walk, Fair games and activities for all ages.

The Froggy Mountain Brothers from Tahiti followed by National Recording bluegrass artist, Larry Gillis and Swampgrass, who waived his fee to help the special olympics.
