Donna J. Bava, Tucker County Circuit Clerk, is seen inside the vault with the new movable tract shelving units that now holds 120 years worth of Tucker County records. The files were condensed from three rooms down to one filing system. There has been a 60 percent increase in filing capacity and easier access to file recovery with the new unit.

The movable tract shelving, for case files, and the roller shelving, for order books, was purchased with a Record Management and Preservation Board Grant provided by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History Archive and History Section.

The total grant amount of $32,727 was the largest grant given to any county last year. It was also the largest grant awarded to any individual elected office in a fiscal year. The $28,000 portion of the initial grant that was allocated to the Circuit Clerk’s office received a 10 percent match from the Tucker County Commission of $2,800 for a total of $30,800. The remaining $4,727, plus the 10 percent matching funds, went to the County Clerk’s office to encapsulate and rebind marriage book 1, 1856-1906 and assessor’s copies of the 1902 and 1919 land books.
