Lady Mountain Lions Knock Off #4 Pocahontas County At Home 47-38
HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team used a strong second half as they erased a 23-16 halftime deficit to pick up the big win at home on Jan 30th against #4 Pocahontas County 47-38.
Pocahontas County came out on fire to start the game and the Lady Mt. Lions could not get their offense going as the visiting Lady Warriors led 15-11 after the first quarter. Tucker County continued to struggle on offense in the second quarter as Pocahontas County outscored the host 8-5 in the second quarter to take a 23-16 halftime lead.
The third quarter belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions as they picked up the defensive pressure and dominated with their inside play. Tucker County scored 17 points in the third quarter and held the Lady Warriors to 10 points to tie the score after the third quarter 33-33. In the fourth quarter the Tucker County defense picked up the pressure another step and outscored the visitors 14-5 in the fourth quarter and never looked back to pick up the win with the final score of 47-38.
Savannah Ambrose led Tucker County with 12 points, 16 rebounds, 7 blocks and Bekah Simmons added 12 points, 5 rebounds. Aiyana Kachmarek finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and Stephanie Betler added 8 points. Tucker County(8-3) was scheduled to travel to Pocahontas County on Monday Feb 3rd then travel to Tygarts Valley Tuesday Feb 4th. They will finish out the week with a road contest at Pendleton County on Thursday Feb 6th and then they will travel to Southern, MD on Saturday Feb 8th.
