CHARLESTON, WVa – Every nine minutes, the American Red Cross brings help and hope to people in need.

Every dollar you give helps us do more of what we do. Thanks to the support of everyday heroes like you, the Red Cross is able to respond to disasters big and small, support military families, ensure that blood is available when needed and teach lifesaving skills like CPR and first aid. In the West Virginia Region last year, the Red Cross assisted over 800 families including almost 1,700 adults and 1,000 children.

The American Red Cross West Virginia Region is celebrating Red Cross Month in March with numerous events throughout the state. March 5th is Red Cross Day at the Capitol with Governor Earl Ray Tomblin proclaiming March as Red Cross Month in WV and resolutions from the State Senate and House of Delegates. Various Red Cross programs will have exhibits at the Capitol so people can learn more about the American Red Cross.

On March 19th a very special event will take place. The Women Who Care Networking Reception will be held at the Culture Center on the State Capitol Grounds from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. In celebration of Red Cross Month and Women’s History Month to focus on the power and influence women have in changing their lives, their communities and the world. Scheduled speakers include First Lady Joanne Jaeger Tomblin, Emily Bennington, Kathleen Walker, Tara Martinez and Erica Mani. Ten year old, Nikki Schoolcraft, will be recognized for demonstrating compassion and care in her community. The goal of the reception is to raise awareness and garner support for the critical programs provided by the American Red Cross West Virginia Region.

Volunteer Recruitment Events will occur in at least eight counties throughout the state. The Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter will host Clara Barton Teas which are an intimate gathering of close friends where a presentation of the Clara Barton Giving Society is presented. The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on donations of time, money and blood to do its work. An average of 91 cents of every dollar given to the Red Cross is invested in helping people who need Red Cross services.
