City of Parsons Mayor, Dorothy Judy, signed the Weatherization Day Proclamation on Tuesday, Oct. 22.  This officially proclaims Oct. 30 as “Weatherization Day.”  Along with Mayor Judy was North Central West Virginia Community Action Board Member, Joyce Metheny.
West Virginia has long recognized the plight of low-income families and individuals in meeting their home energy needs.  Low income households spend a disproportionate percentage of their annual income on home energy bill.
The United States Department of Energy developed the Weatherization Assistance Program in 1976 as the federal government’s cost-effective, permanent solution for reducing the heavy energy burden on low-income Americans.
This program not only saves energy through advanced technologies to improve the energy affordability for low-income families, but also saves lives.  It improves the health and safety of families by identifying carbon monoxide hazards, poor indoor air quality, mold, and other health threats.
