Momentum builds for Tucker Boulder Park

For the past several months the Tucker Boulder Park project has been building momentum through social media and word of mouth. With the launch of the new web site, www.TCrocks.org, and a recent $10,000 donation from Western Pocahontas Properties (WPP), Ltd., the campaign to build a public climbing park in the town of Davis is well on its way to becoming a reality. The Foundation goal is to raise $120,000 before the end of the year to complete phase I of the project and have at least one boulder in place by the summer of 2015.

Upon making the donation, Doug Toothman, Land Resource Manager for Western Pocahontas Properties stated, “The Park is a good recreational activity for the community and those that visit”. The park will be developed in the corner of the Davis Ball Park, property that was deeded to the Town of Davis by Western Pocahontas Properties for recreational purposes in 1996. In addition to the monetary donation, and contingent upon completion of the park, Western Pocahontas Properties will also allow construction of a non-motorized trail connecting the Boulder Park to the proposed rail trail.

Tucker Community Foundation is seeking grant support and private donations to fund the project. Dominion Foundation kicked off the campaign in February with a $25,000 donation. Generous donors from out of state, around the state, and the local community have mailed in contributions ranging from $5 to $5,000. As of June 1, donations total $55,000.

Community support is strong and a number of volunteers have stepped up to assist with the project. Matt Hauger of Davis, helped create the Tucker Boulder Park Facebook page and web site. A committee of volunteers working with East West Printing designed TC Rocks t-shirts that are available for purchase at the Foundation’s Development Office in Davis. Corey Murphy, Kimmy Clements and Adam Chase are helping with design and route setting of the custom manufactured boulders.

Donor recognition levels are identified on the web site. If you would like to be part of this project, mail your tax deductible check payable to TC Rocks, PO Box 491, Parsons, WV 26287.
