Brrrrr! It was 29 degrees when I got up this morning. I am not ready for this weather. I would be happy if it stayed in the 60’s or 70’s all winter, but I guess I live in the wrong state for that to happen. Soon the Robins will be gone for the season, most of the leaves have already fallen and the garden is cleaned up. The seasons pass much too quickly anymore.
Speaking of robins, as I write this, there is one outside my window guarding a dogwood tree. The berries must be ripe for picking, because he will eat a few and chase off any other birds that fly in. He is working up an appetite just chasing the others away. Momma Said, “When they fly south you know winter is not far behind.”
I can still see mom getting everything buttoned up for winter. She worked hard all the time, but she worked extra hard getting the house ready for the cold. I was glad when she started heating the house with gas, because that saved her a lot of work getting in wood and coal. I always hated the smell of coal smoke, it would seem to choke the breath out of me.
Halloween is just around the corner and I am sure all the little kiddies are getting excited about that. We had some great times in school for Halloween but I don’t think they can do that anymore. I believe the kids can dress up, but it is not called Halloween and they can’t have any candy. So what do we have, just a masquerade party?
I don’t understand all this politically correct stuff. We can’t celebrate Christmas or Easter either. I don’t see why, but it seems all the Christian based holidays have been exorcised. Momma Said, “This world is going to h*!! in a hand basket.” I can’t think of a better way to put it than that.
