This year the league has 62 kids participating in the Kindergarten through 2nd grade division which is made up of 6 different teams. The next division consists of 3rd and 4th grade athletes and has 55 kids split up among 6 teams. The last division is the 5th grade through 8th grade. There are 6 teams in this age group and 58 children total in this division. Tucker County Youth league has a total of 175 boys’ and girls’ competing.
Youth League programs like this one is a great thing for the community and is a good experience for these young players. There are several volunteers that make this happen every year from the 25 Volunteer Coaches to the 6 to 8 referees that are helping out every weekend. There are also approximately 13 parent volunteers for the concession stand every weekend and Mark Freeman runs the score clock every weekend. These volunteers help the young athletes in our area experience fun and excitement at a young age. These people are also away from their families to volunteer their time at the gym. As a resident and parent I would like to personally thank all of these volunteers for their time and thank their families for allowing them to help out and make this league successful year after year. There is a great Basketball tradition in Tucker County and this league is a big part in maintaining that tradition. Come out and see our youth playing and competing and more importantly learning to have fun while learning the game of basketball.
