DAVIS – Thursday evening in Davis brought temperatures in the single digits, but those gathered for a special event didn’t seem to notice the frigid conditions. Folks gathered at White Grass Café in support of the Mountaintop Public Library to share fellowship and lots of good food while raising money to support the library.

The Board of Trustees of the Mountaintop Public Library sponsored the benefit dinner and 100 percent of the proceeds from the event went toward a fund match for the library’s new building fund. Board of Trustees President Katie Morvay said this is the fifth fundraiser for the Mountaintop Public Library that had been held at White Grass Café.

“The Mountaintop Public Library Board of Trustees sponsored this dinner which sold out,” Morvay said. “The evening is a social event, and folks will enjoy a wonderful dinner.”

Voras and Lori Haynes, of Elkins, attended the benefit dinner to show their support for the Mountaintop Public Library. Lori Haynes said they joined other Tucker County friends to celebrate the evening.

“This is for a fantastic cause,” Lori Haynes said. “We are excited to be here and invited to come. The food is absolutely fantastic and we are having a great time.”

Mary Ann Deluca said she loves to attend fundraisers like this one in Tucker County.

“As an educator, you have to support events that are educationally based,” Deluca said. “I have been to this event before and I really enjoy it. I really enjoy the area.”

Deluca and friend Dr. David Downs attend many local events together and support causes in the area.

“I have enjoyed the area tremendously,” Deluca said. “It’s a little escape from Elkins to come up to a resort area and be in a vacation spot.”

The Mountaintop Public Library, located in Thomas, is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours Fridays are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional information about the Mountaintop Public Library is available by calling 304-463-4582.
