Anderson WolfordThis is a photo of Anderson Wolford from the Flanagan Hill Area of the County. Anderson was the son of John T and Susanna Flanagan Wolford. Anderson’s grandparents were John and Fannie Thompson Wolford. Anderson’s great grandparents were the Reverend John and Edith Woolever Thompson. The Reverend John Wolford was the first settler in that part of the county; receiving a land grant in 1800 and another in 1820, according to Feaster Wolford. Anderson’s father sold his 400 acre farm to Samuel Cooper. The land was mainly in woods but was cleared fairly quickly as there were 14 Cooper children to work at clearing the property. One of the daughters was Rosetta “Ett” Cooper. She eventually married Anderson Wolford and they had their own family. Aunt Ett had a child before marriage, Shirley Cooper (married Margaret Graham). Children from the marriage include:

Earnest “Hayes” (married Allma Huffman), Strite ( married Nell Bennett), Strawdie (married Charles Ratliff and then Merlin Lanham) , and Tacy (married Fred Thompson). Aunt Ett made wool socks and gloves for the children from wool from the sheep the family raised. Ideas or comments contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
