The Girls’ Track team last season did what no other TCHS Track team had ever done and that was to win the team Class “A” State Championship. The Lady Mt. Lions will look to defend their title this year, while the Tucker County Boys’ team looks to improve on last season’s 14th place finish at the State Track Meet.
The Girls’ Track team has some holes to fill from last year’s team, gone are Seniors, Aiyana Kachmarek, Kelsey Kyle, Olivia Miller and Madison Mullenax. This year there is 21 girls out for the season. There is some key members returning for the Girls’ team, Seniors, Madison Reall, Jenna White, Zoe Sypolt, Mikayla Long, Amanda Harper and Lydia Mullenax. Juniors, Elizabeth Nichols, Jenna Walker, Kate Bates and Sheyenne Delawder return. Sophomore’s Sydney Moore, Sydney Nestor, Emily Crosten, Natalie Evans, Cecily Strawderman, Carleigh Bolyard, Kenzi Pitzer and Mikala Betler are back. A new class of athletes enter the track season as Freshmen, Kelcee James, Aliyah Plum and Riley Evans. Coach Shane Eakle was ask about this year’s team and he said, “Weather has been nice, we are getting the young kids some work on how we do things, for early on we are probably a little ahead of where we need to be at this point of the season.”
The Boys’ team is working hard, they have a lot of young runners that the coaches are trying to help develop. There is a total of 28 boys’ out this season. Returning for the Boys’ this season is just 2 seniors, Marcus Mason and Daniel Kisamore. Juniors on this year’s Boys’ team are: Jameson Hardy, Dillon Swartz, Joey Howell, Eddie Kachmarek, Josh Kincaid, Logan Pennington, Alex Dyer, Noah Nelson and Dayton Jones. Sophomores: Brett Reall, Austin Lawrence, Jacob Davis, Nathaniel Rader, Luke Poling, Jacob Hauser and Jack Melnick. Freshmen: Zane Myers, Mark Barnes, Gariet Pennington, Owen Poling, Ben Callaway Cole Rapp, Jon Rhodes and Chris Chambers. Coach Tom Gutshall is back to help Coach Eakle and Coach Ed Kachmarek works with the Girls’ and Boys’ throwers as well.
There are a total of 49 kid’s girls’ and boys’ out for track this season. The schedule is loaded up again this year with mostly “AA” and “AAA” teams which makes the team better toward the end of the year. These athletes will be working for 40-45 dress positions at each of the 7 regular season meets. The first meet of the season was scheduled for March 24th at Charleston. Here is the schedule for the remainder of the schedule; 4/5 @ Keyser, 4/8 @ Parkersburg South, 4/12 @ Buckhannon-Upshur, 4/14 @ Keyser, 4/19 @ Preston, 4/22 @ North Marion, 4/26 @ Buckhannon-Upshur. The PVC will be 5/4 @ Keyser and the Regional Meet will be 5/12 @ Keyser. The State Meet in Charleston is scheduled for May 20th and May 21st.
