The Leadmine United Methodist Women met Wednesday, April 6 at the Fellowship Hall for their regular monthly meeting having enjoyed refreshments before the meeting. Grace was sung by all who were present.
President Heather Lantz opened the meeting with Wilda Henline reading a poem entitled, “Twas the Night Before Jesus Came.” Our purpose was said in unison by all. Several get well cards were sent. We sang one of Jenny Johnson’s favorite hymns, “Just As I Am.” Heather spoke of the woman who wrote the hymn who had struggled with a lot of health problems and had given herself to God just as she was.
Norva Warner gave the secretary’s report and roll call was taken with 15 present and three children. Wilda gave the treasurer’s report. Our donations for the month will be given to our Bolovian boy, House of the Carpenter and Pledge to Mission, along with our local donation to EMS.
Prema Kines read a story entitled “Pleasure Hunt” for our devotions. Bobbie Hottle read a Response Moment entitled, Glorifying the Lord in Illinois. Heather spoke of several deaconesses and missionaries from the prayer calendar for today.
Several dates were mentioned for the upcoming months including Spiritual Growth, April 7 – 8 at Cedar Lakes. Marilyn Phillips and Wilda will be attending. Day Apart will be held on April 28 at Mt. Lake Park and Mission Encounter, April 29-30 at House of the Carpenter.
New business included setting a date for the Mother/Daughter Banquet at 5 p.m. on May 7, which will be held at the Fellowship Hall. Emma Stemple will be hosting the banquet this year. Reading certificates were presented to Martha Evans, Bobbie Hottle, Lavera Kelley, Marilyn Phillips and Wilda Henline.
Marilyn mentioned that the District will be getting a new president due to the present president accepting a charge within the district. The new president will be Terri Bailes.
Barbara Alford gave a report on the Cooperative Parish meeting. Church camp will be held June 26 – July 1. A county wide revival will be held Sept. 18 – 21 at different churches with different speakers each night. Amanda Hile spoke of her experience while attending the Lay Service session. It was decided to have a diaper night for the Family Resource Network at our June meeting. We also set next Thursday, April 14 as a “work day” to clean the Fellowship Hall.
Lavera had the program, Sermon on the Mount, which was on mercy. She spoke of several different places where God show.
The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer prayed in unison. Those present were those mentioned above and Ashley Taylor, Barbara Evans and Judy Hile. Guests were Rachel and Gracie Hile and Maricay Phillips.
