Mt. Lions baseball team goes 1-4 in busy week

PARSONS – The Tucker County Baseball team hosted Moorefield on Wednesday April 13th. The Mt. Lions dropped the 2 contest 11-1 and 14-1.
Tucker County managed just 3 hits in the first game of the night. Corrick Ambrose, Isaiah Hollis and Shayne Liller had 1 hit each for the Mt. Lions. Justin Fike scored the 1 run for Tucker County in the 11-1 loss.
The second game of the night showed some good defense from Moorefield as they held Tucker County to just 3 hits in the nightcap. Isaiah Hollis went 2 for 3 in the game and collected an RBI in the 3rd inning that scored Justin Fike. Fike collected 1 hit as well in the contest as the Mt. Lions fell in the contest 14-1.
MORGANTOWN – The Mt. Lions traveled to Trinity on Thursday April 14th to face the Warriors for one game. Trinity managed just 5 hits, but they outscored the Mt. Lion to pick up the victory 6-1.
Tucker County finished the game with 5 hits. Corrick Ambrose led the Mt. Lions with a double and a run scored in the contest. Justin Fike, Isaiah Hollis, Michael Gherman and Garrett Carrico ended the game with 1 single as Tucker County fell in the game 6-1.
RICHWOOD – Tucker County traveled south to Richwood on Saturday April 16th to face the Lumberjacks in a double header. The Mt. Lions dropped the first game 11-6, but then Tucker County got back on track as they outlasted the host in the second game for the 12-8 win.
In game 1 Richwood scored 7 runs in the 1st inning. Tucker County fought back in the 4th inning with an RBI single by Shane Liller, a walk by Garret Carrico and a groundout by Slaytor Liller fueled the Mt. Lions to 3 runs to cut the Lumberjack lead to 8-3. Three more runs was scored by Tucker County in the 5th inning to get the Mt. Lions to within 3 as the score was 9-6. A single by Corrick Ambrose and a RBI single by Michael Gherman helped Tucker County close the gap. The Mt. Lions got no closer after that and fell in the first contest 11-6.
In the second game of the day the bats came alive as both teams combined for 23 hits total in the second contest. The game went back and forth and showed 6 lead changes headed into the 6th inning. Tucker County then took the lead in the 6th inning and held on for the road victory 12-8. Shayne Liller led the Mt. Lions with a 4 for 4 performance from the plate as he collected a single in the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th innings. Bailey Bennett got the win for Tucker County as he struck out 4 walked 6 and surrendered 11 hits and allowed 8 runs over 7 innings. Tucker County got 12 hits in the contest as Eric McCrum, Michael German and Bailey Bennett each had 1 single. Justin Fike recorded a double to make it his 8th double of the season. Slaytor Liller and Isaiah Hollis added 2 singles each and the Liller brothers combined for 4 RBI’s in the game.
Tucker County(3-9) will host Southern tonight at 4:30pm and the Mt. Lions will host East Hardy on Thursday with the first game starting at 4:30pm. For a complete schedule and more info got to TuckerCountySports.com.
