Troy Arthur Carr, age 88 years, a resident of the Dry Fork Community, Hendricks, WV, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2016 at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, WV. He had been in declining health.
He was born Thursday, July 7, 1927 at Dry Fork, WV, a son of the late Wayne K. Carr and Invy Pitzer Carr . On July 10, 1948 at Parsons, WV, he was married to the former Mona May White, who preceded him in death September 25, 2008. They had celebrated sixty years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur D. “Sonny” Carr and companion Patsy Bonner and Matthew Lane Carr, all of Hendricks; one daughter, Rebecca Ann Carr Helmick and husband Jerry of Mt. Zion; four brothers, Charlie Carr of FL, Elmer Carr of Pheasant Run, Earnest Carr of Parsons and Roger Carr and wife Linda of Hambleton; five grandchildren, The Rev. Jerry Lee Helmick, Jr. and wife Rogina of Elkins, Casey Yvonne Carr Hedrick and husband Roger of Elkins, Jason D. Carr of Gig Harbor, WA, Malinda Erin Carr of Morgantown and Dillon Joel Carr and wife Vicky of Dry Fork; nine great – grandchildren, Caleb Helmick, Joshua Helmick, Rachel Helmick, Aidan Hedrick, Zayah Hedrick, Makayla Carr, Jayden Carr, Zada Carr and Bella Carr; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are five brothers, John, Lorenzie, Lenzie, Azrie, and Hancel Carr; four sisters, Norie Carr, Lyda Hall, Judy White, and Emma Simmons; one grandson, Scott Helmick; and one great – grandson, Stephen Helmick.
He attended the Mill Run School and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1947. He was an employee of the former Woolen Mill of Parsons, a Supervisor for the first gas pipeline in the area. He was an employee of the former Pulp Mill Co. of Parsons, the Carr & Elza Lumber Co., he was a dozer operator for the Ogden Company, and he was a farmer. He was a Pentecostal by faith. He was a member of the Democrat Committee and the Farm Bureau. He was an avid gardener, enjoying his berries and fruit trees and grafting trees. He liked to coon and deer hunt. He loved spending time on the farm and especially with his family.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy and Pastor James Gilbert officiated and interment followed at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
