PARSONS – The City of Parsons held a public hearing Tuesday to gather public comments regarding a proposed Small Cities Block Grant, not to exceed $1.5 million to finance a portion of the water emergency connection project.
Cary Smith, of Region VII, said the proposed project is to provide an emergency connection between two water systems, Parsons and Hamrick PSD that will provide a secondary water source for each system. She said the project would allow for compliance with Senate Bill 373.
Smith said the deadline to apply is May 23 and the maximum amount allowable for the project is $1.5 million. She said the grant is very competitive and said in 2015, there were 54 applications requesting $68 million.
“This project would be a big help and would serve two communities,” Parsons Mayor Dorothy Judy said.
In other business, Parsons City Council voted to advertise the sale of their old garbage truck and will accept bids starting at a minimum of $25,000.
The next regular meeting of the Parsons City Council is slated for 6 p.m. May 3.
