Tucker County High School presents awards at ceremony

The Annual Sports Recognition Ceremony at Tucker County High School took place on Thursday May 19th in the school auditorium. Assistant Principal JR Helmick started the ceremony with a welcome to everyone in attendance.
The Boys’ & Girls Track teams were announced first by Coach Gutshall and Coach Eakle. Certificates, letters and pins were handed out to all members of this year’s team. Girls’ Basketball was next as Head Coach Jim Ambrose presented certificates to the JV and Varsity. The Girls’ Basketball team finished the season 21-4 and fell to Notre Dame in the first round of the State Tournament. Next on the night was Baseball that was presented by head coach Josh Evans. The Baseball team finished the season with a 6-18 record. Girls’ Cross Country was announced next by Coach Michelle Mullenax. Boys’ Cross Country followed with Coach Dave Nelson presenting his team. The ceremony continued with Football which was presented by Head Coach AJ Rapp. The members of the Iron Mountain Lion were presented then the Football team members were called and given certificates. Girls’ Softball took the podium next as Head Coach Jake Phillips presented certificates to the Softball team members. Golf was next with Head Coach Sam Goughnour presenting awards for the Golf team. The Boys’ Basketball took the stage for the last sport of the night as the JV and Varsity squads were announced. The Boys’ JV Basketball team finished 10-8(7-1 at home). The Boys’ Varsity Basketball team finished the season 19-5 and lost in the first round of the State Tournament to Tug Valley.
Athletic Director Dave Kyle then introduced the Senior PVC Conference Scholar Athletes. Those achieving this award were Jonna Burnside, Abbey Eye, Courtney Haddox, Mikayla Long, Lydia Mullenax, Leslie Nestor, Mary Cat Pennington, Cheyenne Phillips, Madison Reall, Zoe Sypolt, Kayla Wolford, Zach Bishoff, Seth Evans, Skyler Humphrey and Marcus Mason.
The night concluded with two awards. The first award was the Senior Female and Male Academic Athlete of the year which is awarded to the Female and Male with the highest grade point average. This award was presented to Jonna Burnside and Zach Bishoff. The final student award of the night was the Senior Female and Male Athlete of the year, which is voted on by the head coaches. These awards went to Madison Reall and Seth Evans. Evans was not present because he was attending the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce Awards where he accepted the Student of the Year award.
Before Assistant Principle Helmick offered his closing remarks Athletic Director Dave Kyle presented 1 special recognition. Coach Shane Eakle was presented a special plaque for receiving the State and National Track Coach of the year Award. After this Mr. Helmick dismissed the crowd with his closing remarks.
The following is a list of the members of the 2014-15 All PVC Conference: Girls’ Track: Emily Crosten, Mikayla Long, Sydney Moore, Sheyenne Delawder, Carleigh Bolyard, Elizabeth Nichols, Sydney Nestor and Jenna Walker. Boys’ Track: Ben Callaway, Daniel Kisamore, Marcus Mason and Logan Pennington. Cheer: Zoe Sypolt. Cross Country: Madison Reall. Football: Eddie Kachmarek, Brody Strawderman. Girls’ Basketball: Sydney Nestor, Elizabeth Nichols and Sydney Moore. Boys’ Basketball: Seth Evans and Ethan Crosten. Softball: Dominique Meadows.
