DAVIS – Art enthusiasts flocked to Tucker County this weekend to celebrate Artspring, a tour of Tucker County Arts. This year’s activities included feature art spaces including Buxton & Landstreet Gallery in Thomas, The White Room Art Gallery in Thomas, Lamplight in Thomas, Creature in Thomas, MUD Ceramics in Tomas, The Studio Gallery in Davis, WV Highlands Artisans Gallery in Davis and Ben’s Old Loom Barn in Canaan Valley.
Activities included a craft activity at Canaan Valley Resort, repainting of the quilt walk in Parsons, a silent auction, square dance and music in Thomas. On Saturday, Parsons hosted river rock painting, while vendors set up by the Highland Market and inside of Davis Volunteer Fire Department.
Kate Parker said Artspring is a collaborative adventure in Tucker County that is geared up to make money for art in Tucker County Schools.
“That is the basis,” Parker said. “There are people here who believe very strongly that art in the schools is very important. So they are walking the walk and talking the talk, while bringing in money to support art in the schools.”
Parker said there is music, vendors, food and a silent auction.
During the weekend, there were quite a few people through the galleries and vendors. Also there were many art exhibition openings, photo workshops, tours, live music and parties.
There were demonstrations at Ben’s Old Loom Barn in Canaan Valley, papermaking, sidewalk chalk art, pottery, spinning, drawing machines and printmaking.
Sponsors for Artspring include BFS Companies, Bobolink B&B, Canaan Cable, Andy and Bruce Dalton, Canaan Realty, Driftfield Ski and Sport, Landis Realty, Mountain State Brewing Company, The Purple Fiddle, TipTop Café, United Financial, Tucker County Cultural District Authority, The Best of Canaan, MountainTop, Tucker WV, Tucker Community Foundation, Tucker County CVB and the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
Additional information about Artspring is available online at www.artspringwv.com.
