PARSONS – A Kerens man who was charged with one count of malicious assault and one count of domestic battery, second offense, appeared in Tucker County Magistrate Court Thursday before Tucker County Magistrate Mont Miller.
William Glen Murphy, 53, appeared with his attorney Chris Cooper, and his preliminary hearing was contested. After both sides presented their case, Miller found probable cause and the case was bound over to Tucker County Circuit Court.
Cooper also asked for a modification of bond in the case, which had been originally set at $6,000 cash only. Bond modification was opposed by the state, and Miller denied the request to modify bond.
Murphy is currently in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
The following actions were taken Wednesday in Tucker County Circuit Court:
-Robin R. Maxson, 40, who was indicted in June on two felony counts of sexual assault in the third degree and one count of distribution/display of obscene matter to a minor, appeared with attorney Jeremy Cooper before Tucker County Circuit Judge James W. Courrier Jr. for a status hearing.
Maxson is slated to appear for his next hearing at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 23. Tucker County Prosecuting Attorney Ray LaMora III said an evaluation was ordered for Maxson, and said they are trying to get a pre-trial resolution in the case.
-Caitlyn Rose Hebb, 22, who was also indicted in June by a Tucker County Grand Jury on one felony count of child abuse resulting in injury, appeared with her attorney Pat Nichols before Judge Courrier Wednesday. Hebb’s charge was dismissed without prejudice as long as she has no contact with the victim or the victim’s siblings. LaMora said Hebb must complete a parenting course through Tucker County Community Corrections.
-Crystal Brown, of McHenry, Maryland, who was charged with one felony count of child neglect, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor child neglect count. LaMora said Courrier sentenced Brown to six month in jail, but suspended her sentence for one year probation to be served with community corrections, including an alcohol monitoring bracelet. It was also ordered that the Department of Health and Human Resources do an evaluation of Brown and make a recommendation on what classes she should take. Brown was represented by attorney Frank Bush.
-Mark Poling, 29, of Parsons appeared before Tucker County Circuit Judge Lynn Nelson Wednesday. Poling’s attorney filed a motion to reconsider his sentence. Following argument from the both sides, Nelson denied the motion.
-Amanda Sammons, 31, of Hambleton appeared with her attorney Jeremy Cooper on Wednesday before Judge Courrier. Cooper filed a motion for Sammons to be removed from her GPS ankle bracelet. Cooper said the victim is outside of the immediate area attending school. Courrier granted the motion to remove the GPS ankle bracelet but told Sammons she is not to be around the victim, the victim’s family or anyone involved in the case. Sammons will remain on home confinement and is still required to check in with Tucker County Community Corrections.
