PARSONS – Tucker County BOE members heard from Ted Shriver about the progress with the HVAC system being installed at Tucker County High School. Tucker County Superintendent Dr. Eddie Campbell said construction is about 13 days behind.
“This is a little concerning, but Shriver told the BOE crews are working to make that time up,” Campbell said. “He said the contractor has a plan and we should not be concerned about getting back to school on time. We are not quite sure what the plan is, but he has assured us we will be back into the school on time.”
School in Tucker County begins for staff Aug. 8 and students return to classes Aug. 11. PreK will begin school Aug. 17. Campbell said if the weather cooperates this winter, school should wrap up on about the first of June.
Tucker BOE members voted to hire Doug Rabel as a half time social studies teacher at TCHS, effective Aug. 8, pending a background check. They approved hiring Robert Porter as the bus operator for #3A to serve Lanesville/Canaan Valley/Davis and Thomas Harper for bus operator for bus #4A to serve Preston County/Licking Creek/Bull Run for TVEMS and TCHS. They also voted to accept the resignation of Dale Ruckle as TCHs assistant golf coach effective July 7, and the resignation of Denver Gaydon as half time music teacher/half time facilitator at DTEMS.
Campbell said they are excited about the upcoming school year.
“You get to this time of year and everyone starts to anticipate getting back to school. The kids are happy to get back to school and see their friends. It has been an abnormal lengthy summer because of when we got out of school – we will have had a full eight weeks vacation where we only had six weeks last year because Mother Nature blessed us with a mild winter,” Campbell said.
“I think the kids will be ready and I think the parents will be ready for the kids to get back to school and get started. The teachers will be excited about that, too. I am hopeful everyone had a good summer and has had a chance to relax and recharge. We will be ready to go when we open up on the 11th, Campbell said.
The next regular meeting of the Tucker BOE is slated for 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Tucker County BOE Office in Parsons.
