PARSONS – Looking for a new way to spice up a family reunion or birthday party? Parsons resident Kim Shaffer has just the item to make parties and gatherings more beautiful and fun – she has opened a new professional face painting service and is ready to bring painted designs and huge smiles to everyone’s faces.
Shaffer said Kim’s Creations is appropriate for any event – birthdays, receptions or meetings.
“We did the Relay for Life the other day in Buckhannon and I have been setting up and doing face painting during the Music in the Park events at Mill Race Park on Fridays,” she said. “We are just getting off the ground and are excited to work with folks.”
Shaffer said she can paint lots of items.
“I get ideas everywhere,” Shaffer said. “A couple asked me the other day to paint Pokémon on them. Typically kids get all excited about getting painted.”
Shaffer said she grew up in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School in 2000. She said she graduated from Fairmont State University and has been back four years. She is employed by the Mountaineer Challenge Academy in Preston County.
“I have worked with youth for nearly 15 years,” she said. “I have always been artsy. I ran for Queen Daphne when I was in high school and art was my talent.”
When she comes and sets up her face painting stand, she has boards which feature photos of kids she has painted before.
“I can paint the whole face or paint a design on a face, arm or leg,” she said. “It is lots of fun for me and for the person who is getting painted.”
She said one of the newest and most popular items in face painting is to add bling jewels. “It is really popular.”
Shaffer said she can paint six to 12 faces per hour and said she uses FDA compliant, cosmetic grade, high quality professional products that are made specifically for the face and body.
