At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, fifteen students at Tucker County High School were awarded Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS for short) certifications in Microsoft Word 2013, an industry-recognized, standards-based credential for validating Microsoft Office skills. Instead of a typical test where students are asked to answer questions, the MOS certification exam requires test takers to follow instructions to complete a number of tasks, in this case to modify a Word document. Corrick Ambrose, Rachel Arbogast, Samantha Bykofsky, Mark Barnes, Seth Cangley, Chris Chambers, Lalah Ends, Colby Lambert, Joseph Lewandowskii, Branden McGee, Inza Pacella, Owen Poling, Amber Price, Clay Shockley, and Mariah Tennant all received a passing score on the MOS exam.
The MOS certification is recognized globally by academia and business as the premier credential for individuals seeking to validate their knowledge, skills and abilities related to the Microsoft Office applications. Tucker County High School began offering the MOS certification this past school year to their students in the freshmen experience/business computer applications I classes. This year and in the years to come, the goal is to extend students’ opportunities so that they can achieve certifications in not only Word, but other Microsoft Office programs, like Powerpoint and Excel, as well.
