PARSONS – Local resident David Currance was given the go ahead Tuesday to begin working on improvements needed to automate access to cemetery records for the Parsons Cemetery.
“I am willing to put this on the front burner because I think it is very important and I would like to give back something to the hometown I was born in,” Currance said.
Councilman David Greenlief, chairman of the cemetery committee asked Currance how they could best help him. “I think everyone would be in agreement to help you in any way possible, give you access to everything the city has,” Greenlief said.
“It would be easy to work with the cards here,” Currance said indicating he was trying to get the information ready so it could all be computerized.
“That would be awesome,” Mayor Dorothy Judy said.
“We would welcome your assistance in any fashion. Proceed with this and let us know if you need monetary assistance with anything,” Greenlief said.
Jason Myers reported that Thrasher gave all of the revisions to FEMA and they are reviewing those regarding the Pulp Mill Bottom Elevation Project.
Councilman Tim Auvil said membership at Wellness 24 stands at 266 members, the highest it has ever been.
“The Wellness Center is doing well,” Auvil said. “The most members we had before was 150.”
Auvil updated Council on the Splash Park.
“The additional construction costs on the bathroom under monies not allocated as well as setting up the plumbing and pouring the concrete floor was completed by Wayne Huffman at no charge,” Auvil said. “He said it was his contribution to the park.”
Auvil said he wanted to remind folks using the Parsons Splash Park that the last one to use the park needs to make sure all of the gates are closed.
“Until we get automatic closures for the doors, the doors need closed to keep animals out and keep them from doing their business on the splash pad,” Auvil said. “There are umbrellas at the Splash Park and they are already torn up because people do not close them at the end of the day. Please be sure the doors are shut and the umbrellas are closed when not in use. Take care of the park. And remember, there is no food allowed on the Splash Pad.”
Parsons City Council voted to sponsor the Neil Gutshall Memorial Golf Tournament during Labor Day Weekend at the Holly Meadows Golf Course. They also approved a service partnership renewal with Hach Company Service for equipment at the water treatment plant. A letter of resignation by Logan M. Burns was accepted with regret. Council members approved a request for a waiver from Chapter 11, Article 2, Section 3 of the City Ordinance allowing Steve and Evelyn Frymyer to have chickens.
The Parsons City Council ended the meeting with an executive session because of personnel issues at the Wellness 24 Fitness Center.
The next Parsons City Council meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Sept. 8 in council chambers.
