ELKINS, WV – This September the Randolph County Fair is introducing a “Senior Day at the Fair” to be held Thursday, Sept. 8 from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.
A host of activities, exhibits, luncheon, and wellness screenings are planned and are open, free of charge, to seniors ages 60 and up, their caregivers and friends.
The event is sponsored by Mountain Hospice, the Randolph County Senior Center and Davis Medical Center.
“Many in our community have enjoyed coming to the Randolph County Fair for many years,” said Mike Elza, a Board Member of the Randolph County Fair. “This special day is a way for seniors to recapture memories of past Fair experiences and connect with friends in a fun environment that was created just for them.”
From 10 A.M. until noon community health and wellness groups will provide free health screenings and information at the upper/main campus of Camp Pioneer. Screenings available include those for heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes, blood pressure, pulmonary function, pulse oxygen, hearing, sleep apnea, cholesterol, and others. Senior health education and demonstrations will be provided as well.
Lunch will be served at noon at the upper main campus and is sponsored by the Randolph County Senior Center Nutrition Program. Meals for seniors are free. Those under age 60 may purchase a meal for $5.75.
After lunch the activities include a Model A car show, tours of the 4-H barn, Horse & Carriage Rides, Bingo, a Veterans Pinning Ceremony, Senior Olympics, a magic show and a mini-horse show. Live music entertainment is scheduled throughout the day and includes performances by The Franks Family, Filmore Kelly, and, Marissa and Ariel Mallow.
