The Tucker County 4-H Junior Equestrian Team held their regular meeting at the horse barn at Camp Kid on Thursday, Sept. 8. Dan Clower from the Mission 22 Extreme Trail Challenge was there to talk about the upcoming event to be held on Saturday, Sept. 10. Dan encouraged all members to come watch and explained that they would need help with resetting obstacles. JETs will be doing concessions and each member was asked to bring baked goods from home to sell. Concessions will start at 10 a.m. and last until about 2 p.m.
Members also discussed an upcoming trip to Quarter Horse Congress for October 15 in Columbus, Ohio. Leader, Kim Mullenax, explained that plans were tentative but as of now the club would be departing Parsons at approximately 5:30 am and returning to Parsons at approximately 10:00 pm. Quarter Horse Congress is the largest single breed horse show in the world and runs three full weeks in October. Final plans and more information would be available at the next club meeting. Next club meeting was scheduled for Thursday, October 6th at the horse barn.
After club business was over, members packed boxes with used laser printer and inkjet cartridges to send back to Cartridges for Kids. Leader, Kim Mullenax explained that members in the past had collected these for recycling and usually received a small check for each box of cartridges sent in for recycling. She also explained that this keeps these cartridges out of our landfills and that Hinchcliff Lumber Company and St. George Medical Clinic are faithful about recycling their cartridges with our club. An effort will be made to make other businesses aware of this and perhaps have them save their cartridges for the club. A box will be placed at the Extension Office so anyone can drop of cartridges there.
At the conclusion of the meeting, members played red light, green light in the horse ring. Next club meeting was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6 at the horse barn at 6:30 p.m.
