PARSONS – Eldon Plauger reported on the great deal of excavating work and ditch work was donated at the Holly Meadows Golf Course by Bob Gainer and Doward Matlick of Sunrise Construction. Work completed at the course totaled more than $30,000 and the cost to the Tucker County Parks and Recreation Committee was just over $3,000.
“They also put in six senior tees,” Plauger said. “We didn’t have any senior tees prior. Usually on Senior Nights at the course we have between 25 and 30 golfers. A lot of these people aren’t from Tucker County. We have people from Elkins, Belington, Philippi and Fellowsville that come to play.”
Plauger said seniors playing on those evenings are as old as 90 and said the 9-hole course gets a lot of use.
“We have people who play this course. When we had the two-day Gutshall Tournament, we had 108 golfers both days. We had to turn away golfers because we could not take any more. We do that every year. Holly Meadows Golf Course is a well-liked course.”
Commission President Lowell Moore asked for a letter of appreciation to be sent to Sunrise Construction and Bob Gainer and Doward Matlick.
Also during Wednesday’s meeting:
-Tucker County CVB and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jessica Scowcroft presented the 2015 report.
-Joel Goughnour said they were having Brewer and Company there to look at the old part of the Tucker County Courthouse to look about a fire suppression system. Joel said they will try to find a grant for that project.
-Commissioner Diane Hinkle said the Commission received a letter from the Dept. of Navy about a proposed Mt. Storm wind/energy project in Grant and Tucker counties that involves 72 wind towers that covers about 5,000 acres. She said it could eventually employ 5-6 workers. Right now they are reaching out to see if the commission wants to receive correspondence on how the project is evolving or where it is going.
-Commissioner Patrick Darlington said the Commission received a letter from ESP Ambulance Service asking that they be added to the 911 service for emergency calls. He said they are turning the letter over to the Tucker County EMS Authority Board to set up talks for a mutual aid agreement. Once they come up with that plan, they can bring it back to the Tucker County Commission for approval.
The next Tucker County Commission meeting is slated for 4 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Tucker County Courthouse Courtroom.
