PARSONS – The Mt. Lions hosted #3 Moorefield last Friday September 16th. Tucker County cut the Yellowjacket lead to 8 points late in the second quarter, but the Mt. Lions could not pull off the upset and fell in the contest 48-21.
Moorefield wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as the Yellowjackets scored on a 21 yard touchdown pass with 7:13 left in the first. The PAT was no good to put the score to 6-0 Moorefield. Tucker County moved the ball on their possession, but they was unable to sustain the drive and gave the ball back to Moorefield. The Yellowjackets put together a drive that was capped off at the beginning of the second quarter on an 11 yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion was good to make the score 14-0 Moorefield with 11:26 left in the second quarter.
The Mt. Lions again had to give the ball back to Moorefield after their drive was stalled. Tucker County then got a big sack from Eddie Kachmarek that forced a fumble and Tucker County recovered in Moorefield territory. The Mt. Lions then cashed in on the turnover as Cole Rapp took the handoff and threw a pass into the end zone to Will Callaway for a 26 yard touchdown on the halfback pass. The PAT attempt was no good to put the score to 14-6 Moorefield with 6:45 left in the first half. The Yellowjackets then put together a drive that was finalized with 1:25 left in the second on a 26 yard touchdown pass. The PAT kick was good to make the score 21-6 at the half.
Tucker County got the ball to start the third quarter, but the Mt. Lions could not sustain the drive and were forced to punt the ball away. Moorefield then put their offense to work again as they scored on a 123 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick was good to give the Yellowjackets a 28-6 lead with 10:25 left in the third quarter. Moorefield then got the ball back again and went to work on offense again. This time the visiting team got into the end zone from 1 yard out on a touchdown run with 8:09 left in the third and the PAT kick was good to put the score to 35-6 Moorefield.
The Mt. Lions got their offense going on their next possession as Luke Poling connected with Jordan Moss on a 14 yard touchdown pass and catch with 3:44 left in the third quarter. The PAT attempt was no good to make the score 35-13 at the end of three. The Tucker County defense then stopped the Moorefield offense and forced a punt. Then the Mt. Lions blocked the punt and Jonathan Paugh scooped the ball up and ran into the end zone for the score for Tucker County with 11:52 left in the fourth quarter. The Mt. Lions then converted the 2 point conversion on a Poling pass to Moss to put the score to 35-21 Yellowjackets. Moorefield then responded with a 46 yard touchdown run with 10:03 left in the game. Moorefield then ended the scoring on the night with a 15 yard touchdown pass with 3:48 left in the game to make the final score 48-21 Moorefield.
Luke Poling led Tucker County with 5 of 18 passing for 61 yards and 15 carries for 44 yards rushing. Brett Reall ended the night with 21 yards rushing and Mason Johnson added 18 yards rushing. Will Callaway had 2 pass receptions for 52 yards and Cole Rapp connected on 1 pass for 26 yards. Moorefield was led by Varsey Bright led Moorefield with 113 yards rushing and 58 yards receiving. Moorefield outgained Tucker County in total offense 413 to 177.
