CANAAN VALLEY – The Region 2 Championship Match was held last Monday September 26th at Canaan Valley Resort. Notre Dame captured first place as a team with a score of 249. Gilmer County’s team finished second with 252 thanks to Jacob Arden’s low medalist score of 73. Moorefield(254) took third and Tucker County(275) finished fourth as a team.
Junior Carleigh Bolyard led Tucker County with a score of 84 on the day. That score was low enough to make Bolyard the first female golfer from Tucker County to qualify for the State Tournament Match this week in Wheeling. Bolyard had this to say about her Regional play, “I would have liked to have played better, but I was happy with my results at the end of the day. She added, “It’s been a goal of mine since my freshman year to make it to States.” Other finishers for Tucker County were as follows: Conner Nestor(95), Easton Snyder(96) and Corrick Ambrose(105).
Bolyard will tee off at Speidel Course at Olgebay Resort in Wheeling on Tuesday October 4th at 9am. Play will continue on Wednesday October 5th at 9am. When ask about the opportunity of playing in Wheeling she said, “I am thrilled to represent Tucker County High School as the first female golfer to compete in states.” Bolyard added, “I realize the golf course is much more difficult than any course I’ve played this year, but I am looking forward to seeing the talent of all the kids throughout our state competing.
