Ernest Lee Parsons, 74, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life early Sunday morning, October 6, 2013 at the Hospice Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins.
Ernest was born, Sunday, June 18, 1939 in Parsons, a son of the late Junior Parsons and Ruth Elizabeth Hedrick Parsons. On April 9, 1960, in Oakland, Md., he married the former Peggy Amelia Hardin who survives in Parsons. They enjoyed fifty-three years of marriage.
Others left to cherish Ernest’s memory are two daughters: Peggy Sue Kumpf and husband Rev. William Kumpf of Marlinton, Rebecca Polomski and husband Henry of Parsons, four grandchildren: April Sitnik and husband Josh, Ernest Kumpf and wife Sarah, Kasey Polomski, Michael Kumpf and wife Stacey, four great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Mazie and Ruby Kumpf and Bailey Barrett, three brothers: Jerry Parsons and wife Yvonne, James D. Parsons and wife Bonnie and Roger “Joe” Parsons and wife Alice, all of Parsons, and several nieces and nephews.
He attended the schools of Tucker County and graduated from Parsons High School in 1957. Ernest worked as the Police Chief in Parsons for eighteen years and as Fire Chief for several years. He also worked as the security supervisor for the Vetco Electric Company and was instrumental in starting the Timberline Gated Community. In 2008, he retired after twenty-eight years of service, working security for the Canaan Valley State Park.
Ernest liked to target practice with his guns and in his spare time, restore old cars. More than anything, he loved to vacation with his wife Peggy in the Smoky Mountains
