Tucker County Girls get 3 wins in busy week, improve record to 15-2

Sydney Moore plays defense against Charleston Catholic on Jan 28th, Tucker County picked up the win 40-35

HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted the Elkins Lady Tigers on Tuesday January 24th. The Tucker County Girls’ jumped up on Elkins early and never looked back to pick up the win 60-29.

The Lady Mt. Lions held Elkins to just 2 points in the first quarter and scored 14 points to lead 14-2 after one quarter of play. Tucker County extended their lead slightly in the second as they edged the Lady Tigers 12-11 in the second quarter to lead 26-13 at the half.

The third quarter belonged to Tucker County as they outpaced Elkins 16-12 in the third to push their lead to 42-25 after three. The defense for Tucker County stepped up in the fourth as they held Elkins to just 4 points and the Lady Mt. Lions scored 18 to give Tucker County the win by the final score of 60-29.

Terra Kuhn led Tucker County with 14 points. Sydney Nestor and Elizabeth Nichols added 11 points each for the Lady Mt. Lions, while Sydney Moore chipped in with 10 points in the win for Tucker County. Nestor led Tucker County with 7 rebounds and Nichols pulled down 5 boards. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team won also 35-27.

BAKER – Tucker County traveled to East Hardy on Wednesday January 25th. The Lady Mt. Lions picked up the road win 63-22.

The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to a big lead to start the game as they led 18-1 after one quarter of play. In the second quarter the Tucker County defense continued to give the Lady Cougars problems as they outscored East Hardy 7-4 to make the halftime score 25-5.

Tucker County outpaced East Hardy in the third 22-13 to make the score 47-18 Tucker County after three quarters of play. The Lady Mt. Lions flexed their muscles on defense again in the fourth quarter as they edged the Lady Cougars in scoring 16-4 to make the final score 63-22 Tucker County.

Sydney Nestor led the Lady Mt. Lions in scoring with 23 points and Nestor added 7 rebounds, 4 steals. Elizabeth Nichols and McKincley Murphy added 8 points each for Tucker County and Nichols added 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks. Tucker County JV team got the win also 51-24.

CHARLESTON – Tucker County traveled to Charleston Catholic on Saturday January 28th for a Varsity only afternoon contest.

The Lady Mt. Lions fought through a bad shooting performance to get by the Lady Irish to pick up the road victory 40-35.

Tucker County came out strong in the first quarter to lead after one 10-7. In the second quarter the Lady Irish fought back to outscore the Lady Mt. Lions 10-5 and Charleston Catholic held a slim 17-15 lead at the half.

In the third quarter the Tucker County offense came alive as they outpaced the home standing Lady Irish 15-8 to give Tucker County the lead after three quarters 30-25. The Lady Mt. Lions and Charleston Catholic played even in the fourth as both teams score 10 points each and the Lady Irish comeback fell short to give Tucker County the 40-35 win.

Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Elizabeth Nichols added 9 points and Dominique Meadows had 6 points for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.

The Lady Mt. Lions(15-2) will host Notre Dame tonight for a Varsity only contest at 6:30pm and then they will host Pendleton County on Friday February 3rd with the JV game tipoff scheduled for 5:45pm. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
