PARSONS – Tucker Valley scored 2 touchdowns in the last 3 minutes of the game to break a 6-6 tie and pick up their second win of the season over Philippi Middle School 22-6 last Thursday Oct 10th.
The Wildcats started the game on offense and took the ball down the field on an 8 play 56 yard drive that was capped by a 6 yard touchdown run by Brett Reall. The 2 point conversion was no good and Tucker Valley led early 6-0. Philippi got the ball next, but failed to move the ball and had to punt the ball away. The Wildcat offense again moved the ball as the drive started on the 50 yard line and went to the Philippi 12 yard line. Then an interception thrown by Luke Poling turned the ball over to Philippi on their own 19 yard line.
On the Bulldogs next possession the Tucker Valley defense forced another punt and the Wildcats took over at the Philippi 45. Again the Tucker Valley offense moved the ball, but again they were unable to yield points as the drive stalled at the Philippi 19 yard line on an incomplete pass on a 4th down play. Brett Reall came up with an interception for the Wildcats on the next Bulldog offensive play, but the first half clock expired after just 3 plays by Tucker Valley. The halftime score was Tucker Valley 6 Philippi 0.
Philippi got the ball to start the second half and they got on the scoreboard with a 60 yard touchdown run to tie the score at 6-6 after a failed 2 point conversion. Both teams failed to sustain drives the rest of the third quarter. A Tucker Valley interception by Alec Cummings early in the fourth quarter gave the ball to the Wildcats at their own 39 yard line after the return. The Wildcats offense then put together a long 10 play drive that used up most of the fourth quarter clock. The drive was capped by a 6 yard touchdown pass from Poling to Reall with 2:31 left in the game. The 2 point conversion was good to push the score to 14-6 Tucker Valley.
Things would then get worse for Philippi as a sack by Tucker Valley forced a fumble down near the end zone and the Wildcats recovered for another touchdown with 1:10 left. The 2 point conversion was good again and Tucker Valley increased the lead to 22-6. Philippi was unable to move the ball on their next drive and the game ended with the final score of 22-6.
