Elkins, WV – Family Nurse Practitioner Michelle Streets has joined the Davis Medical Center (DMC) family medicine team.
“Michelle’s years of experience as a nurse has given her clinical experience and expertise that you generally only see from physicians who have been in years of practice. I’m very excited and honored that she chose to join me at Davis Family Care,” said Dr. Catherine “Mindy” Chua. “She has added great value to our team.”
In her new role Streets manages the care of families, alongside Dr. Chua, through a holistic approach that emphasizes both care and cure.
“I love nursing, and although I’ll always be a nurse at heart, I really like the opportunity now to work with patients throughout their lives,” said Streets, FNP. “I care for individuals and families more consistently which allows me to help our patients better manage their health goals and/or chronic disease.”
Nurse Practitioners are Registered Nurses who serve as primary and specialty health care providers under a physician. Family Nurse Practitioners can diagnose illness, conduct exams, and prescribe some medication.
“As a nurse practitioner, I’m shifting my focus to preventive medicine, ultimately helping patients avoid the complications of various diseases by helping them understand what they could be doing to get well and stay well.”
Streets has held various clinical positions within DMC, spanning back to 1995 when she started her career as an acute care nurse. She served as a nurse on the day surgery and endoscopy units. In the endoscopy center she specialized in caring for patients being treated for preventive or corrective conditions of the gastro-intestinal system. She became the Clinical Care Coordinator of that unit in 2010.
Streets received her Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (2016), and her Masters of Science in Nursing from Wheeling Jesuit University. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University and her Associate of Science in Nursing at Davis and Elkins College. She is a member of the International Nursing Honors Society, Sigma Theta Tau, and the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates.
Streets grew up in Randolph County and is happy to practice in Elkins where she is raising her children and is surrounded by family. “I feel blessed to have a career that I love, in a place I love, surrounded by those I love,” she added.
