Several new exhibitors have joined the growing list of participants in the 12th Annual Tucker County Regional Health Fair, to be held Saturday, April 29 at Canaan Valley Resort & Conference Center.
Allan Evangelista, DPM, MPH, a foot and ankle surgeon with Mountaineer Orthopedic Specialists, will be offering free foot and ankle screenings at the health fair. These screenings are for any foot, ankle and/or lower-leg problems that participants may have. This could be deformities, numbness, weakness, pain, stiffness, injuries, etc.
Fresenius Kidney Care, a worldwide Fortune 500 company, offers a comprehensive approach to dialysis and kidney disease. Stop by the Fresenius Kidney Care booth to learn about kidney disease, how the kidneys function, what puts you at risk, and how to manage kidney disease. Information will be available on treatment options including in-center hemodialysis and home therapy options. Check out the latest equipment used and ask questions.
Debbie Burget of Modere, a company that offers live clean products for health, wellness, beauty, personal care and home care, will have a booth at the health fair. A variety of Modere products will be on display and Burget will be available to answer questions.
Also joining the Tucker County Regional Health Fair is “Right At Home.” Right at Home provides home care for seniors and disabled adults in hundreds of locations throughout the country.
The annual health fair will be held at the Bear Paw Ski Lodge at Canaan Valley from 7 a.m. to Noon. The event promises a wide variety of free and low cost health screenings and education to help people take control of their health.
“This is an opportunity for people to take steps to get healthy,” said Bill Hennessey, Tucker County Health Fair Coordinator. “While pre-registration is required for many of the screenings, walk-ins are welcome at the health fair.”
Pre-registration is required for the Multiphasic Blood Analysis, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and thyroid screenings. No pre-registration is required for the bone density testing or the foot and ankle screening. With all available appointment times for EKGs and ultrasounds of the gallbladder, aorta and carotid filled, pre-registration for these screenings has closed.
The Multiphasic Blood Analysis, PSA and Thyroid Screenings are the only tests for which there is a minimal charge. These screenings cost $10 each. The Multiphasic tests for a range of disorders such as high cholesterol, diabetes and cancer; the PSA test can show evidence of prostate cancer or an enlarged or inflamed prostate in men; and the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) test can indicate an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) or an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism).
For those participating in the Multiphasic screening, a 12 hour fast is required for the most accurate results.
Mon General will also have a special booth on diabetes infection control at the health fair. In addition, Mon General Surgeon Mark Johnson, MD, will be available to answer questions at the “Talk to Your Doc” booth.
