Arbor Day Celebrations in Parsons
Mountaineer Garden Club and the City of Parsons will plant a tree in Mill Race Park in celebration of National Arbor Day on Friday, April 28 at 2 p.m.
The garden club will be joined by local 4-H members at 4 p.m. to plant a second tree, also at Mill Race Park. The club and 4-H members will then enjoy a celebration picnic.
National Day of Prayer
There will be a prayer meeting at the City Hall in Thomas led by Dave Goff and at the Community Center in Davis also at noon led by Pastor Neil Parsons in observance if National Day of Prayer.
TVFD Ramp Burgers
The Thomas Volunteer Fire Department Ramp burgers and beans. 3 – 7 p.m. Friday, April 28. Meal; burger, beans, corn muffin and drink $7 , Ramp burger or hamburger $4, cup of beans $2.50. Eat in or take out.
PVFD Children’s Parade
The Parsons Volunteer Fire Department Children’s Parade will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 11. Prizes awarded to first, second and third places.

Ramp Dinner

Barasa to speak at local churches
Reverend Nelson Barasa of Jesus Christ Founder Ministries, Bungoma, Kenya will be speaking in local churches.
On Wednesday, April 26 at 7 p.m. Reverend Nelson Barasa will speak at Dry Fork Assembly of God Church on Bonner Mt. Road
He will speak at Thomas United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

National Day of Prayer at Courthouse
The National Day of Prayer will be observed at the Tucker County Courthouse Square on at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 4. All local ministers are invited to speak. Everyone welcome.
Ramp Dinner
St. John’s Youth Fellowship is sponsoring a ramp dinner on Friday, April 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ham, corn muffins, white or brown beans, fried potatoes with or without ramps, and a dessert for $10. Everyone welcome.
Trout Fishing Tournament
There will be a fishing tournament on Cheat River on May 6, 2017, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Cheat River Bridge (US 50) to the Cadell Bridge on WV 7 just south of Albright. The event is sponsored by Bob Likens, owner and operator of the Riverview Lounge, LLC. Registration and weigh in will take place at the Riverview Lounge. Entry fee is $20. All contestants must be licensed to fish in West Virginia Registration begins at 9:00 am. All West Virginia fishing regulations apply. West Virginia DNR officials will be at the site. Referees will be placed along the river. Fishing will be allowed during the tournament from the banks or boat. Prizes awarded based upon weight of the catch. First prize: 50% of Gate; Second place: 25% of Gate; 3rd place: 10%. A fish fry will follow the tournament at the Riverview Lounge. For more details, call Bob Likens 304-454-9754.

Student Art Show
The annual Student Art Show will be from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at the Davis Fire Hall. Projects can be viewed and voted on from 2 – 5 p.m. Saturday, April 29 and noon – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at which time the Art Show will begin.
Cortland Foundation’s Pasta Palooza
The Cortland Foundation and Tucker County Prostart program will partner again for its annual Pasta Palooza. From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, Chef and Tucker County High School ProStart program instructor Carrie Shahan and her students will create unique pasta dishes for members of the community and Cortland Acres residents. The event raises money for the Cortland Foundation and ProStart. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are encouraged by e-mailing lnelson@cortlandacres.org or by calling 304-463-4181. Landmark Commission meeting
Tucker County Historic Landmark Commission will meet, May 8, at the Tucker County Historical Society Museum at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Free Friday
Free Friday will be at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on April 28, at 6 p.m. A free meal consisting of a variety of sandwiches, salads, desserts, and drinks will be served. Everyone is welcome. No donations are ever accepted.
