FFA host parent – member Banquet

Tucker County FFA members, guests, family members and supporters gather at Tucker County High School Saturday for the Annual Parent-Member Banquet. The guest speaker was Joe Hatton, West Virginia Deputy Agriculture Commissioner. During the event, students participated in the Greenhand Ceremony and celebrated their achievements from the 2016 to 2017 school year.

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County FFA hosted a celebration to honor the accomplishments of its members for the past school year and to thank the parents and supporters throughout the community for helping the Tucker County FFA success during the 2016 to 2017 school year.


Joe Hatton, West Virginia Deputy Agriculture Commissioner, offered greetings from the Commissioner’s Office.

“We have a new West Virginia Agriculture Commissioner Kent Leonhardt,” Hatton said. “Leonhardt is a Monongalia County farmer.”

Hatton said his office has added a communications director and a director for Cedar Lakes. He said on May 15, they would be adding an Agriculture and Business and Development Director to their staff.

Honorary FFA Members are selected during Saturday’s Tucker County FFA Parent-Member Banquet at Tucker County High School. New inductees include Brent Hauser, Willy Lantz and Willard Harsh.

Following the dinner and awards, Tucker County FFA members had a live auction where members offered their skills at outdoor yard work, fence building, planting and mowing to earn money for upcoming FFA activities. Hauser said the live auction was a success and offers members the opportunity to earn money to go on trips and events with the Tucker County FFA.

2016 Eastern Region Award winners include Elizabeth Buchanan for extemp. speaking, third place; Alyssa Hackney, freshman creed, fourth place; Vincent Moats, first place tractor driving; Jacob Beavers, second place tractor driving; Amber Price, upperclassman creed, third place; American Degree 2016 to Andrew Hauser; and 2017 State Degree recipients Jacob Hauser, Jacob Beavers, Micah Thompson, Tanner Burns and Vincent Moats.

Tucker County High School FFA Chapter activities for 2016 to 2017 include attendance at the WV State FFA Convention, FFA Week, FFA Sunday, the West Virginia Beef Expo, fruit sales, the Eastern Agriculture Symposium, the Small Farms Conference, the Regional Scholastic Contest, strawberry sales, the Beef Quiz Bowl, the Grazing Conference, career development events, the State Fair of West Virginia, the Tucker County Fair, the Tractor Driving Contest, Leaf Peepers, the Tucker County FFA Elimination Dinner, the National FFA Convention, the Legislation Dinner, the Tucker County Commission meetings, the Regional Leadership Conference, the Fall Leadership Conference and the Regional Christmas Party.
