A TED grant is helping reward Tucker County businesses and entrepreneurs who participate in the upcoming Pitch Contest. TED is an acronym for the Tucker County Economic and Community Development Fund, a fund that was created as a challenge-match opportunity by Tucker Community Foundation in 2014 and endowed within two years by donors who stepped up.
The Pitch Contest is the first project to benefit from the endowment. The purpose of the contest is to provide cash incentives for creative business development within Tucker County. A grant from the TED fund will be combined with contributions from other Pitch Contest sponsors who are helping to motivate participation and build support for local business development.
The contest will be held at 6:00 pm, June 15 in the auditorium of Tucker County High School. Any Tucker County business can apply, and at least two separate financial prizes will be awarded – one for starting a new business and the other for existing businesses. Applications can be downloaded at
http://www.tuckerfoundation.net/
Partner agencies involved with development of the contest include the Tucker Community Foundation, Tucker County Development Authority, Tucker County Chamber of Commerce, Woodlands Community Lenders, and the WVU Extension Service working alongside the WVU Launch Lab which has held several similar pitch competitions across the state. The TED grant committee was made up of donors who support the fund and other Foundation and community representatives including Dave Clark, Beth Clevenger, David Cooper, Angie Shockley, Jeff Nelsen, and Dan Bucher.
