Editor,
I want to first say that I completely support and have the greatest respect for our first responders. But when you want to start taxing, (don’t call it funding, call it what it is, it’s a tax) the residents of Tucker County you are going to have some backlash.
The families of the area that have been here for generations, contrary to popular belief, don’t have extra cash laying around. Even the small business owner that hopes and prays to make a profit at the end of each month, every dollar in your pocket counts.
If you want to get funding, do what Mr. Showalter suggested, going knock on doors, have spaghetti dinners, get the community involved. As Americans and especially being West Virginians, we don’t like the idea of unnecessary taxes. Don’t bring in the suburbia lifestyle of HOA’s and community taxes into our area. I believe that the people would be more than willing to donate money if asked, don’t use a piece paper to demand money.
