On October 17 Tucker County High School hosted Commissioner Walt Helmick of West Virginia Department of Agriculture, who was invited by Delegate Randy Smith. In addition to Walt Helmick, Delegate Randy Smith, school nutritionist Jonathan Hicks, and President of Mettiki Coal and and Tucker County Commissioner Mike Birch were also in attendance. They wanted to check out the school’s state of the art high tunnel and greenhouse, as well as the Farm To School Program. Commissioner Helmick has exciting new plans for agriculture in our state focusing on growing food that will be consumed in West Virginia.
