Marian Evans Wagner

A Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Parsons City Cemetery in West Virginia for Marian Evans Wagner, age 88, born on October 21, 1928 passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her residence in Youngsville.


Reverend Philip Dent conducted the funeral services.

Survivors include her two daughters, Dawn Wagner Wolf, and Paula Wagner Peterson; her daughter-in-law, Christine Rice Wagner; her grandchildren, Thomas Ronald Wolf and his wife, Taylor, Matthew Blair Wolf and his wife, Emily, and Charles Michael Wagner; her great grandson, Seth Benson Wolf all of Youngsville; her sister-in-law, Eileen Evans of Steubenville, Ohio; and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Wagner; her son, Charles K. Wagner; her parents, Marvin Perry and Hazel Pauline (Barr) Evans; and her brothers, Keith E. Evans and Donald G. Evans.

A native of Parsons, West Virginia and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for most of her life, Marian Evans Wagner was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her.  Marian attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she earned her Bachelors and later, her Masters of Education. She worked for and retired from the Lafayette Parish School System as a librarian at Lafayette High School. Marian was a member of the NEA, the AAUW, the Lafayette Education Association, Lafayette Parish Classroom Teachers, Alpha Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Daughters of the American Revolution and she served as President of the Lafayette Parish School Librarians.

She was also a member of the Krewe of Zeus and served as the chairman of the debutante ball. Marian enjoyed needlework, reading, dancing, playing bridge and traveling. She was a devoted member of Asbury Methodist Church. Marian was a kind, considerate and fun loving woman who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Wagner family to Hospice of Acadiana and their caring staff and also to Marian’s great-niece, Jessyca Martin for her companionship.
