Events at Blackwater Falls State Park
Thursday, July 27,
- 7:30 p.m. Dig It!-The West Virginia Geologic and Economic Survey presents an evening presentation about “The Mountain State”. Program includes examples of rocks and an introduction to what lies beneath the surface in an informal yet interesting presentation. Program is about an hour long; open to the public at no cost. Blackwater Falls Lodge Conference Center.
Friday, July 28, 2017:
- 10 a.m. Rockin’ It on the Trail of Geology- Program begins at scenic Pendleton Point overlook then rambles on a rock and root strewn path with a short but steep grade of less than ½ mile. About 90 minutes.
- 7:30 p.m. The Return of one of North America’s largest land mammals: Elk in West Virginia.
WVDNR biologist Randy Kelley is the lead manager of the project. Kelley will be presenting WVs Elk Management Program, from the initial possibility, through receiving Elk from Kentucky and the release into southern West Virginia mountains. The program is free to attend and open to the public. Blackwater Falls Lodge Conference Center. Youth and adults welcomed. - The reintroduction of elk in Southern West Virginia happened in late 2016. As the herd grows, hunters and tourists will begin to see this once plentiful big game animal in the Mountain State return.

PVFD Annual Chicken Burn
The Parsons Volunteer Fire Department will hold their fifth annual chicken burn on Saturday, July 29. Half chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, roll, dessert and drink for $10. Dinners will be ready by 4 p.m.
Cake Walk
St. John’s Youth Fellowship will be sponsoring a cakewalk at the courthouse square on July 29 at 6 p.m. Live music by the Youth Choir. Everyone welcome.
