President Scott Hebb welcomed everyone present to the 41st annual Fairview Homecoming gathering at the church pavilion on Location Road, St. George, on June 28, 2017. Following a picnic lunch and visiting, a brief business meeting was held for the maintenance of the two Fairview cemeteries.
Wendy Nedrow read the names of those who passed away since last year’s meeting and lead in a moment of silence and prayer. The list included Vicki Ann Butts Clark of Adrian, Michigan; Leah Henthorne Speir of Elkins, WV; Patricia Haddix Foster of Kingwood, WV; Ronnie Jones of Parsons, WV; Enid White Wiles of Morgantown, WV; Patty Ashby Wotring of Buchannon, WV; Daisy Helmick of Elkins, WV; Matthew “Loupie” Lambruno of Cadiz, Kentucky; and Rodney Spessert of Shavers Fork Road, WV. Our prayers for God’s comfort go out to each family.
Scott announced that old flags have been replaced with new ones at both cemeteries and the mapping is progressing well for the cemeteries and work will continue to complete the mapping on computer. Election of officers was held with the new 3-year term to expire on June 28, 2020. The officers are Scott Hebb, president; Mark Burns, vice-president; Bonnie Knotts, sec/treas.; Committee members are Beth Streets, Greg Sigley and Allen Hebb.
Scott handed out prizes to the those traveling the farthest, Melody Bohon Kotrba and daughter, Isabelle, from New Bern, North Carolina; and for the fourth consecutive year in a row, the oldest man attending was 92 year old, David Strahin of Montrose; 90 year old, Marijane Martin of Location Road, again received the prize for the oldest woman present; the youngest boy and youngest girl attending were born on the same day hundreds of miles apart. They are 2 month old Kenley Grace Blamble, daughter of Jonathon and Samantha Blamble of Eglon, WV and 2 month old Zion Hebb, son of Zach and Jennifer Hebb from North Carolina. They were both born on April 29, 2017. The prizes given consisted of a hand crocheted doily made and donated by Marijane Martin, two large handcrafted baskets made and donated by Ralph and Narel Hebb, Fairview Cemetery Cookbooks, West Virginia storybooks and Appalachian toys.
The meeting was adjourned to continue visiting. Following the meeting everyone present was entertained with music and singing by the Hannah family (Jessica, Jacob, Josiah, Gabrielle, James and Theresa) from Thomas, WV.
