Elkins, W.Va. — For the fourth consecutive year, Davis Medical Center (DMC) has earned the highest distinction from the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines program. The Gold Resuscitation Quality Achievement Award recognizes that DMC has demonstrated at least 85 percent compliance in the cardio-pulmonary arrest resuscitation quality measures for a period of 12 months.
The award was presented during a special ceremony in the Gift Garden Lobby attended by scores of DMC employees.
“Receiving this Get with the Guidelines-Resuscitation award demonstrates tangible evidence of your hard work and commitment to saving lives throughout Elkins and the surrounding area,” Cynthia A. Keely, BA, RRT, LRTR, AHA West Virginia Director for Quality and Systems Improvement said during the presentation. “Davis’ physicians, hospital professionals and hospital leadership are working together to focus on quality improvement systems designed to ensure that every resuscitation patient is treated according to the American Heart Association’s treatment guidelines.”
The primary goal of Get with the Guidelines-Resuscitation is to save more lives by preventing in-hospital cardiac arrest and optimizing outcomes through benchmarking, quality improvement, knowledge translation and research.
Davis Medical earned the achievement through the collaborative efforts, dedication and commitment of teams from Case Management, Infection Control, Quality, Education, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Department, Physicians and the hospital’s AHA Training Center staff.
“Hospitals everywhere are making quality measures a priority. It is extremely rewarding to know that the effort put forth by the staff in our community hospital achieves standards of care comparable to some of the largest and most prestigious medical centers in the country,” said Michelle A. Stanton, BSN, RN, DMC Chief Quality Officer/Risk Manager. “It’s representative of our continual quest for higher quality and better patient safety and outcomes.”
The AHA’s suite of quality programs puts up-to-date treatment guidelines, tools and resources to work in hospitals and outpatient practices across the nation. The program includes in-hospital modules for heart failure, stroke, heart attack and resuscitation as well as a program for outpatient physician practices. The program also enables hospitals to track data for Cardiopulmonary Arrest, Medical Emergency Team, Post-Cardiac Arrest Care and Acute Respiratory Compromise in the Web-based Patient Management Tool*.
Davis Medical will again be honored for the achievement at national recognition events during AHA Scientific Sessions.
