Chief Water and Wastewater Operator John “Red” Lipscomb received the 2017 Water Operator of the Year Award at the West Virginia Rural Water Association’s Annual Awards Banquet this evening in Charleston, West Virginia.
Lipscomb was recognized for his hardwork in producing good quality water, improving water accountability, implementing a good preventative maintenance program, and improving the morale and productivity within the Water Department.
“I felt it was necessary and deserving to nominate Red Lipscomb for this prestigious award. He has displayed outstanding leadership within the Water Department,” said City Administrator Jason Myers. “I’m thankful that the selection committee felt the same way I did and awarded Red with this great honor.”
Lipscomb said, “I am very humbled to have received this award,” said Chief Water/Wastewater Operator John “Red” Lipscomb. “It’s true that hard work and dedication pays off. I started out in this profession at 21 years old and stuck with it. When I was promoted to Chief Operator at Parsons, I was one of the youngest operators in the state. I love what I do for a living. Most times it’s a thankless job. We have such a great team at the City. All employees work together to get the job done. My operations staff does a wonderful job each and every day. I would like to give a special thanks to City Administrator Jason Myers for nominating me for this award and believing in me. I also want to thank the Mayor and Parsons City Council for their support and allowing me to do my job.”
