The Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge will now allow hunting on Sundays this season.
A new regulation that West Virginia DNR passed this year allows hunting on Sunday on private lands only with written landowner permission. The refuge is considered private land with West Virginia DNR. A released statement from Refuge Director Ron Hollis serves as written landowner permission to hunt on Sundays on the refuge.
The refuge is open from one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset.
“In order to hunt on Canaan Valley NWR, you will need a current West Virginia hunting license for the designated game, a current CVNWR hunt permit located at any kiosk (information panel) near parking areas, and an obligation to follow the regulations while hunting,” the statement said.
“As a sportsman, you need to be selective in your hunt, harvesting only what is necessary and nothing more,” Hollis said in the released statement.
Updates for next year’s hunting season will be provided. For more information, visit https://www.fws.gov/refuges/hunting/.
