SENIOR CENTER HOLDS OUTPOST

The Tucker County Senior Citizens held their monthly Outpost at the Parsons Center on Oct. 3.  Evelyn Moore welcomed everyone. Everyone recited the Lord’s Prayer, gave the Pledge of Allegiance and then sang “God Bless America.”


Those having October birthdays were recognized. They were Vonda Phillips and Nellie Workman. The group then sang “Happy Birthday” to them.

The program was then turned over to the Tucker County CEOS. They introduced Parsons Mayor Dorothy Judy and County Commissioner Lowell Moore. These two signed a proclamation declaring October 2 and 3 as West Virginia Breast Cancer Awareness Days. Dani Lambruno from the St. George Clinic then gave a brief talk about breast cancer statistics and preventative tests that are available. Bonnie’s Bus will be at the St. George Clinic November 1 through 3 for mammograms. The breast cancer wreath was then hung by Vera Lipscomb, a breast cancer survivor.

The Tucker County CEOS ladies held a Breast Cancer Awareness Program at the Parsons Senior Outpost on October 2nd. During this time Dani Lambruno, from the St. George Clinic, spoke about early detection and awareness. Commissioner Lowell Moore and Mayor Dorthy Judy read and sign a Proclamation proclaiming October to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Following the proclamation a wreath was hung in honor of all the survivors and those who have lost the battle to breast cancer. The CEOS ladies provided a sheet cake for the luncheon that followed. The cake me made by Sharon Daniels. October 16th the CEOS group will do the same program at the Thomas Senior Center.

The entertainment for the day was provided by the musical group “Barely Able.” The group is comprised of senior citizens from Tucker and Randolph counties. The group includes Louanna Moore, Joe Shue, Jim & Meg Buddingh, Shirley Cassidy, and Charles & Gloria McCauley They play a hammered dulcimer, lap dulcimer, harmonica, bass guitar, Dobro, and violin. They played several selections including “Wildwood,” Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Simple Gifts,” “Golden Slippers,” Lady Mary,” “You are My Sunshine,” and “Amazing Grace.”

Door prizes were won by: Mary Frances Good, Sharon Daniels, Jean Morrison, Virginia Popio, Eva Phillips, Truman Phillips, Lee Johnson, Ida Workman, Lorraine Hinkle, and Eldred Bright.

A moment of silence was held for our country and all of the recent tragedies. A blessing on the food was given and everyone enjoyed a delicious meal.
