Maintain Don’t Gain” Teaches Healthy Holiday Strategies

Parsons, WV – The holidays can lead to unwanted weight gain.  But through participation in the Maintain Don’t Gain program, you can keep your health, and your weight, on track right through the holiday season.

The no-cost six-week program is sponsored by the Tucker County Health Department and Davis Medical Center.  It kicks-off November 7th with registration at the Davis Fire Hall between 4:30 and 6:30 PM.  Registration is also available on November 8th at the Health Department from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.  Those unable to sign-up on those dates can come to the Health Department during regular business hours through November 20th.  Registration includes weigh-in, and blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. Those who register are eligible to win an Echo Dot or a Fitbit.

“Maintain Don’t Gain will help participants maintain their weight, or even shed pounds, during the holidays when it’s more challenging to eat healthy foods and make time to exercise,” said DMC Population Health Director Tiffany Auvil.  “The strategies learned during the course provide education and skills people can continue to use throughout their lifetime.”

Participants will receive a packet weekly which contains educational resources, meal and activity tracking tools, healthy recipes and more.  They are required to weigh-in each week at a participating community location.  A Holiday Cooking Demonstration will be held December 13, at 5 PM at the Tucker County Senior Center.

Those who would like more information about the Maintain Don’t Gain Holiday Challenge can call the Tucker County Health Department at 304.478.3572.
