On Friday, November 17, from 6 pm to 8 pm, Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge will hold an open house at the refuge visitor center located at 6263 Appalachian Hwy. According to the press release, “The refuge has been working hard to conserve and protect the lands under our management. We want to share with the public what we have accomplished in the last year, and what our plans for the future hold.”
Staff will be in attendance to answer questions and explain the refuge’s goals and objectives. Volunteers are integral part of the refuge, and the open house will provide an opportunity to come learn about volunteer opportunities.
The work of refuge personnel recently focused on habitat management, road improvements, and community outreach. The release stated, “We invite the public to come visit the refuge, ask questions, and meet us. Come out, have a cup of coffee, talk to the different staff members, and tour our visitor center and maintenance shop.”
