Dennis L. Henthorne, Sr.

Dennis L. Henthorne, Sr., 78, a resident of the Location Road Community, passed from this life Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Washington Health System in Washington, PA. He had been in declining health since May but death was unexpected.


Dennis was born Wednesday, August 30, 1939, in St. George, a son of the late Walter Lee Henthorne and Maggie Marie Lipscomb Henthorne. On May 21, 1960, in Parsons, he married Hannah V. Janie Baxter Henthorne who survives.

Left to cherish Dennis’ memory is one son, Dennis L. Henthorne, Jr., and companion Jenny Fincham of Mill Creek, one daughter, Leah D. Zirk and husband Wade of Thomas, one brother, Deyon C. Henthorne and wife Joan of Ripley, one sister-in-law, Mary Jane White Henthorne of Elkins, six grandchildren, Sarah, Kayla, Haley, Austin, Allison and Autumn, three great grandchildren, Wessley, Jaycee and Derek, six nieces, Carolyn Shreve of St. George, Debbie Mann & husband Alan of NY, Velda Warner of Elkins, Deana Henry and husband James of Montrose, Carolyn Henthorne of NC, Donelle Henthorne of Ripley, special niece, Sarah Lipscomb, three nephews, David Speir and Mark Smith, MD, Rodney Henthorne, OH, David Henthorne of Ripley, special great nephew, Gus Mullenax and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney Henthorne and Lonzo B. Henthorne, one half-brother, Spencer Henthorne, two sisters, Iona Helmick and Leah Henthorne Speir, one niece, Marilyn Clute and one nephew, Gary Helmick.

Dennis attended the schools of Tucker County and was a construction worker. He had worked for various construction companies. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time with his family. He was Methodist by faith.

A graveside service was held at Parsons City Cemetery on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. The family suggests contributions be made in Dennis’ memory to the Cancer Care Center, 801 Harrison Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241 or to the Tucker County Senior Center, 206 3rd Street, Parsons, WV 26287. The Hostetler Funeral Home was been entrusted with the arrangements for Dennis L. Henthorne Sr. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com
