DHHR Announces WVCHIP Funding to Continue

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) today announced the West Virginia Children’s Health Insurance Program (WVCHIP) has been funded for six years.

“DHHR worked diligently over the past few months to secure extended funding for this critical program,” said Jeremiah Samples, DHHR Deputy Secretary. “We are extremely grateful for the funding passed by the U.S. Congress, including West Virginia’s delegation, to continue essential health care coverage for more than 21,000 children in our state. Families that depend on WVCHIP can now have peace of mind that their children’s health care needs will be covered and that none of their current treatments will be interrupted.”

The WVCHIP Board met today to rescind its previous action in November 8, 2017, to close the program due to a lack of federal funding. No interruption of health care services to West Virginia children occurred while the federal funding issues were unresolved.
