Gerlean Morral Schoonover, 78, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Monday, March 5, 2018 at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center in Elkins.
Gerlean was born on Wednesday, October 25, 1939, in Randolph County a daughter of the late Arthur Morral and Dora Vance Morral. She was married to Thomas Schoonover who survives. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Left to cherish Gerlean’s memory are four children, Brenda Lea Shupp and husband, James of Amissville, VA, Jeffrey Dale Schoonover of Harrisonburg, VA, Brian Keith Schoonover, Sr., and wife Lawanda and Scott Christopher Schoonover and wife Rebecca Ann all of Montrose, two sisters, Rosalie Petrice and Hazel Stevenson of Coalton, three brothers, Robert, Tom, and James Morral of Montrose, five grandchildren, Jessica Marie Ware and husband Cregor, Christopher Scott Schoonover, Brian Keith Schoonover, II., Miranda Ellen Schoonover, Amber Lea Schoonover, and one great granddaughter Incentricity Ware, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Gerlean in death besides her parents were seven siblings, Bert Morral, Richard Morral, Gaythel Davis, Earnest “Buck” Morral, Ruth Morral, Troy Morral, and Juanita Morral.
Gerlean graduated from Elkins High School and had worked for G.C Murphy Company and as a secretary / switchboard operater at Davis and Elkins College. She also worked as a nurse’s aide for Nella’s Inc. and I.O.O.F Nursing Home from which she retired after many years of service. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, WVU games, and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved her family and enjoyed taking care of her grandkids.
Visitation was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Bryan Headley officiated and interment followed in Elkins Memorial Gardens. The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Gerlean Morral Schoonover.
