The Mountaineer Garden Club held its annual Easter Display at The Mountain Valley Bank from March 9 until April 2. The theme this year was “ Hippity Hopping down the Bunny Trail”. The public, who vote for their favorite display, chose from a plethora of bunnies dressed for spring.
Incorporating the elements of floral design: line, form, space, texture, and color, and the principles of floral design: balance, proportion, rhythm, contrast, harmony, and unity, club members presented a wide variety of displays.
Tied for third place were Sandra Hockman and Linda Sherman.
Sandra chose dogwood blossoms and poppies springing from a red pitcher with a rabbit close by waiting to nibble on the colorful treat.
Sunny faced Narcissus daffodils displayed in an open weave basket with a bunny holding his favorite food was Linda Sherman’s spring display.
Kennetha Greenlief captured second place with a delightful bunny holding lilacs in lavender and white with a back ground of various greens draped artistically in the classic line style.
First place winner, Faith Moore, dressed her bunny for Easter Sunday in a white bonnet with a purple tulle veil which set the stage for deep purple lilacs, contrasting white daisies, glacier white ivy, a variety of mixed greens, with moss interspersed with miniature daisies used as ribbon on the crown.
The Garden club holds monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at 6 PM at the Five Rivers Library in Parsons. New and former members are welcome. Meetings include guest speakers regarding our environment and how we can decrease our carbon footprint on this good earth. The Garden club provides a yearly scholarship to the 4-H camp, celebrates Arbor Day with the planting of a tree in one of the local parks and maintains the welcome sign on Route 72 with colorful seasonal plantings.
